She calls herself The Queen but we don’t think she is actually, you know, The Queen. Particularly as her website suggests her name is Paula, rather than Elizabeth II.

Our hosts Joe and Kath welcome us to the Braeside B& B, just off the Square. Macs Adventure, with whom we booked this trip on the West Highland Way, has delivered our bags, and Joe has carried them up to the 1st floor, where we have double rooms with en-suite bath. These are lovely rooms, very comfortable.

Some of the more active members of Riverside church in Kirkintilloch spent a day walking on the West Highland Way recently and posted this video.

They chose the stretch between Balmaha and Rowardennan, proving you don’t need to walk the entire West Highland Way to stretch your legs, have a great time and enjoy the WHW scenery.

Google Earth has always offered a unique view of our surroundings and a handy glimpse of what to expect when we go travelling.

Now Google Earth has been added to Google Maps and while you may still have to install a plugin for your browser, you do not have to install a separate application.

You get a good view of the West Highland Way on Google Earth though of course, it helps if you know where to look. If you don’t, you may want to start by zooming in to some of the more obvious and populated areas such as Fort William.

You can also tour Fort William now via Google Streetview. When you call up a Google Map of the town – for example this view – and drop the little yellow man near the roundabout on that map, he will take you right to the end point of the West Highland Way.
